![]() Using BrianPop's Tim and Moby as inspiration, the students will create a multimedia presentation with PowerPoint or if on the iPad, use a story program like Scribble Press or Tech4Learning's Frames (not yet available as an app). Each program, whether you are on the iPad or computer, will allow you to export the slides into Animoto. Each slide or book page will address essential knowledge to the topic. This type of Digital Storytelling provides new ways to combine various technology mediums such as graphics, audio, video, animation and web site publishing to create powerful stories for all to see and hear.

Sock Puppets - Using Puppets in your Foreign Language Classes
PHAP Stories, Build Stories (and more) with Photos and Apps

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and with this project, students have fun adding words to pictures to tell a story. It challenges the students’ creativity in writing skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a partner, artistic skills, and their eye for design. This activity is one of my middle school student’s favorite!
There are many extension lesson included as well as lessons to differentiate.
Rubrics and NET*s standards are included. You can download the lesson HERE

Help Me Get To Maine

Here is a lesson where the students had to plan a trip to Maine for me. The were asked to create a travel plan that would include a detailed itinerary along with the bill. They were given a budget of $2,500. This can be done using one of the many story apps. It's a fun, authentic long-term project.
Let’s Animate! Bring your Characters to Life with Animation
The students will personalize their biographies using one of the Animation Apps. They will create pictures and include personal narration to give the story life. This type of Digital Storytelling provides new ways to combine various technology mediums such as graphics, audio, video, animation and web site publishing to create powerful stories for all to see and hear.
Students will select a person from history for their biography; this can be from their curriculum or as a technology project. The person selected must have made a positive contribution to society in any field (science, history, language arts).

The Story of My Life

Animoto Student Samples
Is it true that a picture is worth a thousand words? In this project, students will be able to put that theory to the test. They will be creating a photo story of their life using a collection of photos, but there is a caveat, the pictures will not be personal in nature, rather, they will be researching pictures from a given list that represents them in many ways. This activity can be done on a computer or a mobile device.Slides will be uploaded into Animoto and published as a movie. Great lesson to teach students to use the advance Google search for copyright free images. Students will also review the Fair Use Policy for adding music to their presentation.

How to Create Photo Albums on an iPad

It’s easier than you might think to select pictures from the iPad’s Photos app and
gather them together in an album for easy access. You can quickly gather images
from your iPad’s photo library as well as pictures you have taken with the iPad’s
camera (if you’re using an iPad 2 or later) and name the album in a matter of
seconds following these directions.
